Welcome! I’m Briana.
Nice to meet you! Welcome to my corner of the internet. I am currently a Postdoctoral Teaching Associate in the Communication Studies Department at Northeastern University.
My research is situated at the intersection of media psychology and political communication, with a broad focus on the micro- and macro- level effects of social and digital media consumption. I am a mixed methods scholar and have experience in both quantitative (big data, machine learning, hypothesis testing) and qualitative work (discourse analysis, interviews).
I am passionate about education, teaching, and pedagogy. I find joy in learning and my favorite part of doing what I do is working and connecting with my students. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to work with phenomenal students. I have taught previously at Bryant University, Emmanuel College, Boston University and Northeastern University. I have experience teaching a variety of classes, such as Research Methods and Statistics, Public Speaking, Sports Communication, and Health Communication.
In 2022, I was awarded the Promising Professor of the Year Award by the Mass Communication and Society Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. I was also awarded the Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award from Boston University in July 2022, the Excellence in Graduate Research Award from Boston University in July 2021, and the Distinguished Leadership Award from Boston University in July 2020.
During my time at BU, I was fortunate to be selected to work as a Research Fellow for the American Heart Association’s Tobacco Center for Regulatory Science (A-TRAC).
I received my MA in Communication from Bryant University in August 2018 and my BA in Communication from Bryant University in May 2017 (go Bulldogs!). Prior to my time at BU, I worked in the newsroom for WBZ (CBS Boston) and for the office of Rhode Island governor Gina Raimondo.
